What to wear and bring
Every outdoor activity assumes −10 to −25 °C. Operators lend thermal overalls and boots on snowmobile, husky and aurora safaris; for the village rides and Snowman World you dress yourself: wool base layer, fleece, a windproof shell, insulated boots, mittens rather than gloves and a hat that covers the ears. Rental sets from Rovaniemi shops cost about 46 € a day and are delivered to hotels. Bring hand warmers, a power bank (phone batteries fail in the cold) and sunglasses for the bright March snow.
Booking: on the spot or online
Reindeer and husky rides are sold at the yards and sell out after lunch between Christmas and New Year; Snowman World and SantaPark sell dated tickets; snowmobile and aurora safaris need a booking because the clothing and the vehicles are allocated per person. GetYourGuide lists most village operators with free cancellation up to 24 hours before, which is the easiest way to lock a slot from home and still change the day when the forecast moves. The Arctic Circle Tourist Information and the Rovaniemi Safari Center on the square book the same tours in person.
